NEW YORK, NY, March 4, 2010 – TransPerfect, the world’s largest privately held provider of translation services and related technology, today announced that it has raised over $50,000 for Haitian Relief efforts. The money was raised primarily through the institution of an employee/employer donation-matching campaign. Donations are being divided equally between the American Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders.
"With the current state of the economy, we would have been thrilled to raise half this amount," stated Liz Elting, President and CEO of TransPerfect. "The generosity of our staff has been truly awe-inspiring. Together, we are pleased have been able to play a small role in helping those in affected areas."
TransPerfect has a long history of philanthropic pursuits and ran similar employer-matching fund-raising drives for those affected by the Asian Tsunami in 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and both Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar (Burma) and the Sichuan Earthquake in the spring of 2008. TransPerfect also actively supports a range of charities, such as the Joyful Heart Foundation, the American Heart Association, Autism Speaks, and Everybody Wins.
About the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. The American Red Cross has so far committed more than $67 million to meet the most urgent needs of earthquake survivors in Haiti.
