Interview: How Lufthansa Automated their Localization Process
Starting in 2014, Lufthansa partnered with TransPerfect to make its localization processes more efficient. One key goal was to establish a common platform for managing translations, including integrations with source content systems for all Lufthansa brands.
Discover how, through a collaboration with TransPerfect, they were able to make localization processes more efficient in an interview conducted with TransPerfect Vice President of Strategic Accounts Martha Geller, Lufthansa Group Head of E-Commerce Sebastian Riedle, and Lufthansa Group Project Manager IT Mike Eisenbach. Full interview transcript:
The ambition of the Lufthansa hub airlines is to be the leading airline group in Europe. For us it’s hugely important for us to select partners wisely. My names Sebastien Riedle, I’m head of e-commerce for the Lufthansa Group.
Lufthansa’s objective was to find a solution that would support their multiple brands, that would integrate with their content management system, that would reduce time to market, reduce the cost, and uphold their quality standards. My name’s Martha Geller and I’m vice president of strategic accounts at TransPerfect.
They had antiquated content on the site that was not reflective of the brand and they were trying to have a much more easy to use digital experience which required complete re-platform across their entire stack. And so we were a component of that with provision of GlobalLink, our globalization management system, which integrated into the different marketing systems they were onboarding as part of this initiative and allowed them to automate a lot of the processes that they wanted to setup to, again, create a much more responsive, localized digital experience for their guests.
If I look back at how we did translations in the past, it is highly manual, a lot of copy and paste, excel and word documents being sent around, so we had no proper process for it, and with TransPerfect we have now a very smoothly running integrated process that allows us to do translations in a higher quality way.
When we set up the project to integrate the TransPerfect solution into our website it was a very friendly atmosphere. My name is Mike Eisenbach and I’m working for Lufthansa airlines as a project manager IT.
They were looking for a flexible solution that would allow them to onboard their different brands, and they were also looking for something that was future proof, so that as their requirements changed the platform would be able to support those changes.
My team at Lufthansa have come back to me with two major findings when it comes to the TransPerfect solution. One is that it’s seamlessly integrating with our AEM suite, which is a huge advantage to us, and the second is it’s just a very smooth and easy running process and nothing compared to what we used to do with manual processes before.
The support from TransPerfect was always helpful and on time, so whenever we had a question we’d reach out to the TransPerfect support we’d get the answer within a really short period of time.
Lufthansa and TransPerfect have been working together since 2014 and we have been successful in reducing the time that it takes to translate content and release information to their customers.
They were looking for a flexible solution that would allow them to onboard their different brands, and they were also looking for something that was future proof, so that as their requirements changed the platform would be able to support those changes.
We have worked with TransPerfect from the very beginning of the project, making sure that we take full advantage of the seamless integration of the TransPerfect solution with our AEM solution and therefor deliver a high quality result in time and in budget.
