November 16, 2005 - TransPerfect Translations, one of the world's largest providers of international communication services, today announced that it has been selected by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) shared services program to provide targeted multilingual translations. The program will focus its efforts on educating the multi-ethnic community and improving housing and services for the aging. AAHSA joins the growing roster of public-sector organizations working with TransPerfect to forge educational relationships in national and international neighborhoods to continue informing populations across cultures.
Liz Elting, President and CEO of TransPerfect, stated, "Rapid advances in science, technology, and healthcare are enhancing the quality and length of people's lives in this country. It is essential that service providers have the communication skills to address the very specialized needs of this growing population. Given the cultural and linguistic preferences of elderly people from different countries, it is also essential that service providers utilize skilled, knowledgeable language professionals to develop successful communications tools for them. TransPerfect applauds AAHSA's efforts, and is honored to have been selected to assist in expanding the organization's reach."
"As AAHSA's members - who serve two million people every day - strive to provide healthy, affordable, and ethical aging services, it is more important than ever to be able to communicate accurately and effectively," noted Scot Scurlock, Vice President of Shared Services & Group Purchasing for AAHSA. "We face the convergence of an information-based society and an increasingly diverse population. TransPerfect Translations' services will help our members across the continuum of aging services meet the needs of the people they serve."
Opportunities abound in the United States to develop and deliver customized services to the growing population of senior citizens. By 2030, the population of Americans age 65 and older is expected to double from nearly 36 million to 71.5 million. By the year 2050, senior citizens 65 and older will contribute 86.7 million people to the United States' growing population. Individuals who come from other countries and are not fluent English-speakers comprise a significant segment of the aging population in the US. Their needs present a distinct set of challenges and opportunities.
