A New York-based provider of translation and language interpretation technology has launched a new operation in East Hartford's tallest office building.
TransPerfect, which calls itself the world's largest translation company, began operating at 111 Founders Plaza on Feb. 15, according to CEO Phil Shawe. The company is occupying more than 1,000 square feet on a single floor of the newly renovated Founders Plaza
The company's expansion into Greater Hartford is TransPerfect's 50th U.S. location, following its recent expansion in Tampa Bay, Fla.
TransPerfect's office in East Hartford can hold 10 employees, but Shawe said that number could grow to 30 in the near future. Some would work remotely, he said.
Shawe said East Hartford surfaced as an ideal location because TransPerfect already has a large client base in Greater Hartford. The Founders Plaza site also offers room to grow its Connecticut workforce, he added.
TransPerfect said it provides foreign language translation services for local customers including Aetna, United Technologies Corp, Carrier Corp. and Stanley Black & Decker.
Shawe said a large, tech-savvy workforce is another regional draw for his company, which offers translator tools driven by artificial intelligence that convert language on website content management systems and other editing and proofing software, among other functions.
"There is a good talent pool with plenty of industry experience," he said.
Shawe co-founded the company at New York University in 1992.
In total, TransPerfect has more than 100 offices and 5,000 employees in 35 countries.
